With profound grief and heavy heart, regret to inform sad demise of gallantry awardee and war veteran, Cdr Ashok Kumar, VrC , (01036-B), 77 yrs, who breathed his last at 0944 hrs on Sat 18 Oct 2025 at Hiranandani Hosp Powai Mumbai, leaving behind many to mourn his transit to higher realms.

The officer had a glorious career in the Indian Navy. He was posted onboard INS Panvel – a converted Gun boat deployed in Sandeshkhali, Sunderbans area, during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The ship caused heavy damage to ships and establishments at Khulna Garrison. For his bravery and gallant actions he was awarded the VrC.

On behalf of President and all the members of NFPC we offer our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to his wife, Mrs Basundhara Kumar, daughter Ruchi, son Nikhil and the grieving family members. We pray that they bear the irreplaceable loss with courage and fortitude.

Funeral and last rites were conducted on18 Oct at Ghatkopar crematorium.
