Chief of Naval Staff lays Foundation Stone of Indian Navy Maritime Museum at Pune
Adm Dinesh K Tripathi PVSM, AVSM, NM, Chief of Naval Staff laid the foundation stone of the Indian Navy Maritime Museum at Pune on 30th November 2025. A short presentation was given by Vice Adm Jaywant Korde PVSM, AVSM, VSM, (Retd), President NFPC on the futuristic plan envisaged by the team comprising Naval Veterans and Faculty from Symbiosis Institute of Design, Pune.
The aim is to establish an iconic museum dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, widely considered the Father of the Indian Navy, in Pune so as to position Pune as a strategic hub for naval heritage, outreach and thought leadership. With this, the NFPC aims to enhance the Navy’s narrative in a key hinterland city and project Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy. We also hope to provide a platform for perception management, recruitment drives and STEM orientation as well as create a high quality facility for Navy-Industry-Academia engagement.
The Museum besides showcasing the artefacts and exhibits will provide immersive experiences using digital and AI techniques. The Museum will feature four galleries:-
- Pre-medieval to Medieval.
- Maratha Navy to Royal Indian Navy
- Royal Indian Navy to the Modern Navy of today.
- Mercantile Marine.

The Core Themes of the Museum will be : Coastal Forts, Ancient Ships, Trade Routes, Modern Naval Power, Assets & Operations, Learning Naval Practices. It will also have Immersive Spaces with War-room Simulations, Water Room, Ship-building, Play Zones. Children who visit will experience Learning & Engagement in the form of Theatre and Galleries for Schools and NCC/Navy Children programs.
The vision of the Museum can be summarised as I3, i.e. Inform-Immerse-Inspire, as explained here by VAdm Korde. Accordingly, it will be modelled on the principles of Play, Learn, Make, Innovate and Contribute.
