Cdr Anil Charan

1. With profound grief and sorrow we regret to inform you all regarding the sad and untimely demise of Cdr Anil Charan (01118 R) PNE0072, who left us for his heavenly abode at Command Hospital Pune on 05th Sept 2026. He is survived by his wife Mrs Roopila Charan and daughters Shonali and Sweta.

2. Cdr Anil Charan joined the Navy as SS Aviation cadet. He was a 1971 War veteran wherein he was actively involved in carrying out Maritime Reconnaissance from Visakhapatnam. He joined 300 Seahawk Squadron in end May 1972, shortly after the 1971 war. His association with the squadron was during an important period of its history, when the unit was actively involved in flying and operational training.

3. In Nov 1973, he was involved in FAC liaison duties during an Army exercise. thereafter he proceeded to Kochi (then Cochin) in Feb 1974 to undergo the Man Management course.

4. In Jul 1974, he opted for helicopter flying and instead got married. His journey in the flying branch continued beyond 300 sqdn as he joined 312 Sqn in 1979, where he commenced his Super constellation training and eventually flew this aircraft and later commanded the Squadron.

5. He later served on INS Vikrant as Cdr (Air) between 1983-85. Subsequently he commanded the landing craft INS Shardul.

6. Amongst his many fine qualities was his diehard attitude and jovial optimistic personality. An avid golfer, he continued pursuing his passion despite failing health.

7. On behalf of the President and all the members of NFPC, we extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his wife Mrs Roopila (Dolly) Charan and daughters Shonali and Sweta and the bereaved family.

8. We pray that the Almighty grants strength and fortitude to the family to bear this irreparable loss and that his departed soul rests in eternal peace.

9. Funeral and Last rites were conducted at Muktidham Crematorium Golibar Maidan on 07 Sept 2026.
