Lt Cdr NS Padmanabhan

Dear Members,

1. Lt Cdr NS Padmanabhan 70068W, an Octogenarian veteran of NFPC, who left for his heavenly abode in the early hours of 04 Nov 2024, started his career in the Indian Navy in the Education Branch on 26 Mar 1962. He belonged to the pre-direct entry genre of officers. He later specialised in Naval Meteorology and Oceanography.

2. Paddy sir – as he was popularly known – was an outstanding Met Officer and served in many naval air stations. He also served in major ship/establishments of the Navy, which included INS Valsura, INS Mysore, INS Garuda, INS Jarawa, INS Hansa and INS Angre. His last appointment was at INS Hamla.

3. In 1982, after 20 years of distinguished service, he took retirement from the Navy and took up a teaching assignment with SIES college and then in Patkar College in Mumbai. Honest to the core, and with high moral values and conviction, he stood his ground like a rock and maintained his principles against many a storm. As Cmde Narayanan retd always fondly remembers of his national spirit as mentioned by him “Paddy was amongst the first Naval Officers who volunteered for land fighting when Jamnagar naval base was at a possible threat of bombardment during the 1965 war.”

4. The Octogenarian veteran, Lcdr NS Padmanabhan was given a final farewell on 04 Nov @1330 hrs in the truest traditions of Service at Muktidham Crematorium Golibar maidan Pune. May God Almighty give strength and fortitude to the family at this hour of grief. On behalf of President NFPC and all members, we offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

5. He is survived by his wife Mrs Jaya Padmanabhan, 3 Children Geetha, Ganesh and Girish and 3 Grand Children.
