RAdm Rakesh Chopra

1. With profound grief and sorrow, we deeply regret to inform that Rear Admiral Rakesh (Rocky) Chopra passed away at 1745h on Saturday, 29th March 2025 at Army Hospital R&R, Delhi Cantonment due to Cardiac Arrest. He was 77 years of age.

2. Rear Admiral Rakesh Chopra, ex-31st Course NDA was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1968. After completing Sub Lieutenant courses, he qualified as Ship’s Diver. He was part of he team of Divers deployed off Chittagong harbour to recovered gold that had been dumped into the river by the retreating Pakistani Army.

3. After initial courses he specialised in Navigation and Direction. During his illustrious career spanning over 38 years he held several important Afloat and Ashore appointments including Command of IN Ships Andaman and Ganga, FOO, Western Fleet, Director, Warship Overseeing Team, CSO (Ops), Eastern Naval Command. and Head of the Training Team, Navy at DSSC (W). On promotion to the rank of Rear Admiral he was appointed as FODAG.

4.  Post retirement from the IN he pursued his academics and intellectual passion and rose to be a Professor of Management and Strategy at XLRI, Jamshedpur and IMT, Ghaziabad. He also earned a Diploma in International Humanitarian Law. He was an active participant member of National Maritime Foundation.

4. Funeral and Last Rites of Late Rear Admiral Rakesh Chopra were performed on Sunday, 30th March 2025 at Electric Crematorium, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.

5. We pray to Almighty God to grant eternal Peace to the noble soul of Late Rear Admiral Rakesh Chopra in his heavenly abode.

6. On behalf of President and all members of NFPC, we convey our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to all members of the grieving Family of Late Rear Admiral Rear Admiral Rakesh Chopra and pray to Almighty God to grant them peace, solace, comfort, strength, courage and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
