With profound grief and heavy heart, regret to inform sad demise of Nonagenarian Naval Veteran LtCdr Hakim Singh, (86305-Y), age 94 yrs, in INHS Asvini on 10 Apr 2026 due to Cardiac arrest, leaving behind many to mourn his transit to higher realms. His wife had pre-deceased him a few yrs ago.
The Officer had a glorious tenure in the Indian Navy. He joined as a Shipwright Apprentice in 1948 and was commissioned as an officer in 1960. He had served on both the cruisers, INS Mysore and Delhi. He had also done WOT stints at Garden Reach (Kolkata), HSL (Vizag) and Mazagon Docks (Mumbai). In 1975, as Lt Cdr, and the senior most Shipwright Officer in the Navy, he was appointed as Officer-in-Charge, Shipwright Training School, then located within the premises of INS Angre.
He retired in Nov 1980 on completion of 32 years of service. Upon retirement, he worked at civilian shipyards – Bharati Shipyard and NN Shipbuilders. He finally hung his boots at the age of 62 and settled down at Dara Enclave, Nerul, Navi Mumbai.
Funeral and Last rites were held at Chandanvadi crematorium on 13 Apr 2026.
