The beautiful city of Pune is one of the most popular cities in India, which many veterans of the Indian Armed Forces, including those of the Navy Foundation Pune Chapter, choose to make their home after retirement.
Pune is blessed with pleasant weather for the major part of the year, plentiful greenery, and all the amenities that a modern city can offer. It has been consistently ranked as one of the most livable cities in India. It has expanded in size and population considerably over the last century and is presently the second biggest city in Maharashtra and the eighth biggest in India. The estimated population of Pune was about 7 and a half million in 2020.
Pune is also the Headquarters of the Southern Command of the Indian Army. It has a sprawling Cantonment, providing all the facilities that veterans would like to avail. These include three military hospitals, CSD Canteen and Shopping Complex, ECHS Polyclinics, Rajendra Sinhji Institute and Southern Star Training Area and Sports Complex. The city is also home to a number of other major military institutions. The prestigious National Defence Academy located at Khadakwasla is where many veterans would have spent their formative years in service. Others include the Armed Forces Medical College, College of Military Engineering and the Air Force Station at Lohegaon.
This website is meant to provide a repository of information about some of these facilities; as also events conducted by the NFPC, various policy documents, forms, best practices and policies on aspects such as pension entitlements, ECHS and hospital facilities as well as many other things that may be of use to veterans.
