1. With profound grief and sorrow, we deeply regret to inform passing away of Captain MS Kohli, (70007-A), AVSM at 1745h on Monday, 23rd June 2025 due to old age at his residence; 82, Sainik Farms, Central Avenue, New Delhi – 110062. He was 93 years of age.
2. Captain MS Kohli (70007-A) was commissioned into the Education Branch of the Indian Navy on 8th March 1954 and on completion of 20 years of meritorious service, retired on 2nd August 1974. For his distinguished service he was honoured with Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.
3. During his illustrious career and distinguished life, he had the singular honour of leading a nine-member 1965 Indian Mount Everest Expedition which held a world record for 17 years. For his distinguished achievements he was bestowed with Padma Bhushan, Arjuna Award and other recognitions such as FRGS, Distinguished Mountaineer, IMF Gold Medal, etc.
4. On the occasion of Golden Jubilee of his Everest summit on 20th May 2015, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi felicitated him among the entire Nine-Member Team of first Indian Mount Everest Expedition.
5. Funeral and Last Rites of Late Captain MS Kohli were performed on 24 Jun 2025 at Green Cremation Ground, Green Park Extension, Ansari Nagar, West, New Delhi.
6. We pray to Almighty God to grant eternal Peace to the noble soul of Late Captain MS Kohli at his final resting place.
