With profound grief and heavy heart, regret to inform of the sad demise of 1971 Indo Pak War veteran and gallantry award winner, Cmde I J Sharma, AVSM, VrC, (00435-N)(MUM-0143), 89 yrs who passed away at 0540 hrs on 07 Sep 2025 in Juhu after a prolonged illness, leaving behind many to mourn his transit to higher realms.

The officer had a glorious career in the Indian Navy in the Executive branch and commanded the missile boat INS Nirghat that fired the first missile in 1971 War to sink PNS Khyber, on the night of 04 Dec, for which he was awarded the Vir Chakra by President V V Giri.

On behalf of President and all the members of NFPC we offer our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to his wife, Mrs Chander Rekha Sharma, daughters Priya, Mala and Anjalika; and the grieving family members. We pray that they bear the irreplaceable loss with courage and fortitude.

The last rites were conducted at Anchorage, Juhu on 7 Sep followed by funeral at SantaCruz crematorium.
