1. With profound grief and sorrow we regret to inform the sad demise of Cmde Thayi Hari, AVSM, NM on 28 Oct 2025 at Chennai. He was undergoing treatment for some time.
2. Cmde Thayi Hari was born on 05 Dec 1950. He was an alumni of Amravati Sainik School and belongs to 36th NDA Course. He was commissioned into Navy on 01 Jan 1971. He was an aviator and had flown first the Superconstellations and then the Islanders. He got an NM for landing an aircraft on a riverbed after encountering serious engine problems. He also commanded the Dornier Squadron in CGAS Daman.
3. Amongst other appointments, he was NA(Bonn), Sqdn Cdr INAS 318, Cdr Air INS Utkrosh, XO INS Betwa, M21/CO Karwar, Commissioning Capt Air INS Rajali, SO TS1 as CO INS Tir, CO INS Rajali, CSO to FORTAN , Port Blair, and retired last as NOIC TN on 31 Dec 06. During his time as NOIC, he could get the present Naval Mess at INS Adyar sanctioned. As NOIC for Tamil Nadu during the 2004 Asian Tsunami, he had played a key role in coordinating the rescue and relief efforts from Chennai.
4. He is survived by his wife Mrs Srinija, daughter Ms Sritha and a son. He was suffering from cancer and had a stroke also few months back.
5. On behalf of the President and all members of NFPC we offer our heartfelt condolences to Mrs Srinija, the children and all the grieving family members. May God Almighty give the family all the strength to overcome this sad loss.
6. Funeral was held on 30 Oct 2025.
