Dear Members,

With profound grief and heavy heart, regret to inform sad demise of eminent Veteran Surg Cmde SB Purkayastha, (MR- 1608), 91 yrs who breathed his last on 20 Nov 2025 in Kolkata after a prolonged illness, leaving behind many to mourn his transit to higher realms. His wife predeceased him 2 yrs ago.

The Officer was commissioned in Jan 1961, had a glorious career in AMC as a Paediatrician, served in INHS Asvini and retired as CMO ENC in Dec 1991.

On behalf of President and all the members of NFPC we offer our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to his Sons, Cdr Saurav Purkayastha and Mr Shouvik Purkayastha and the grieving family members. We pray that they bear the irreplaceable loss with courage and fortitude.

Funeral was held in Kolkata on 21 Nov 2025.
